The area of Punta Sabbioni, lies at the southern end of the Cavallino-Treporti coast, and is home to a rich historical and naturalistic heritage, as well as frequent connections to Venice and the islands, which are about 10 kilometres from here. The beach of Punta Sabbioni extends for about 2 kilometers and is one of the favorite beaches of many families for its width and the gentle slope towards the sea, as well as for the nature that characterizes the whole coast of Cavallino in general. In this area, which hosts together with the pine forest behind a protected biotope called “dunes and woods of Punta Sabbioni”, we find the refectory, a small wader on the verge of extinction, which has found its ideal habitat on the Cavallino-Treporti coast. and a dense and fragrant pine forest with tamarisks and various species of pines, an ideal place for a walk immersed in nature at any time of the year.

While the coastal environment preserves an important natural heritage, the hinterland of Punta Sabbioni instead houses numerous military fortifications today the scene of outdoor cultural events. Among these we remember the Forte Treporti, locally known as “Forte Vecchio“, built during the Austrian domination to defend the lagoon territory and Venice, and the nearby Amalfi Battery, completed in 1917 and used in both world wars to protect the coast and the Venetian city.

Going along the beach of Punta Sabbioni to the final end, you reach the stone dam that delimits the mouth of the port of Venice-Lido, a favorite place for fishing enthusiasts, dominated by the Punta Sabbioni lighthouse, unmistakable for its unique pagoda shape and perfect scenery for a souvenir photo.

From here, going up the Lungomare Dante Alighieri, you can admire the MOSE mobile dam system, built to protect Venice from high water and which came into operation for the first time in October 2020, and reach the Punta Sabbioni pier, from where every day motor ships and ferries leave for Venice and the neighbouring islands.

Connections to Venice and the islands

Punta Sabbioni offers loads of possibility to go to Venice, Lido di Venezia and the islands of the lagoon which are active all year round. From the campsite you can easily reach Punta Sabbioni ferry point by car (5 km), by bus (5 minutes) or by bike along the cycle path along Via Fausta.

Once you reach the Punta Sabbioni ferry point you will be spoiled for choice: set out to discover Venice and its museums on your own, or take part in a fascinating guided tour, stroll enjoying the peace of Lido island and admiring the typical villas in Liberty style, or visit the picturesque islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello. The choice is yours!

Reaching Venice from the Punta Sabbioni ferry point is very simple:

  • Take the ACTV motorboat (Line 14) towards Venice and get off at the “San Zaccaria – Pietà” stop, which is about a 10-minute walk from Piazza San Marco
  • The motorboat leaves every half hour and the journey takes about 35 minutes
  • The cost of the ticket is € 7.50 (one way ticket) or € 20 (ticket valid for 24 hours, free circulation on ACTV water buses). Children up to 6 years travel for free.

If you want to visit the island of Lido di Venezia, the trip is even shorter:

  • Take the ACTV motorboat (Line 14) towards Venice and get off at the “Lido – (S.M.E)” stop, which is about 10 minutes’ walk from the beach and the Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi
  • The motorboat leaves every half hour and the journey takes about 20 minutes
  • The cost of the ticket is € 7.50 (one way ticket) or € 20 (ticket valid for 24 hours, free circulation on ACTV water buses). Children up to 6 always travel for free.

The islands of Burano, Murano and Torcello are also within easy reach:

  • Take the ACTV motorboat (Line 12) towards Venice / F.te Nove and after a short stop at the nearby port of Treporti, continue towards the islands
  • If you wish to visit Burano, get off at the Burano “C” stop. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Otherwise continue in the direction of Murano “Faro”: navigation in this case will take about 1 hour and 10 minutes
  • The island of Torcello can be reached mainly with a short stopover on the island of Burano. There every 15 minutes you will find an ACTV vaporetto (Line 9) that connects Burano to Torcello in just 5 minutes
  • The cost of the ticket varies according to the program. If you will only visit one island, buy a single ticket (valid for 75 minutes) at a cost of € 7.50 per person (obviously you will need to purchase another ticket for the return). If, on the other hand, you have planned a tour of the islands by sailing from one island to another aboard the ACTV waterbuses, then the solution for you is the ticket valid for 24 hours at a price of € 20 per person. Tickets valid for 2, 3 or 7 days are also very convenient, the perfect solution for those who want to spend more time visiting. Children always travel free up to the age of 6.

Parking in Punta Sabbioni and where to stay

Precisely due to its proximity to the port of Punta Sabbioni, easily reachable also by public transport, Camping Ca’Savio is the ideal place to set out to discover Venice.

From the campsite you can reach the port by car in just 5 minutes. There, near the port, you will find numerous guarded and unattended paid parking lots, where you can park your car at a cost of about € 5.00-€ 7.00 per day.

If you prefer to travel by bus, you will only have to go to the center of Ca’Savio (about 800 meters from the campsite. Once there, take bus 5, which goes to Punta Sabbioni every half hour. Once at the port, get on board the motorboat for Venice or the islands, leaving after a few minutes. It’s that easy!

Finally, in the immediate next to the ferry point, there are private parking spaces for motorcycles (about € 5 per day), for bicycles (€ 1 per day) and for campers (€ 18 per day).
