The municipality of Cavallino-Treporti inaugurates the new cycle path over the Venetian Lagoon. A project with a contemporary concept that once again demonstrates the seaside town’s attention to citizens, tourists, territory and sustainability. An extraordinary work, that offers evocative views and exciting sunsets to those who decide to enjoy one of Italy’s most beautiful cycle paths.
On 5 July 2022, Europe’s longest cycle path over the water was officially inaugurated: 7 km to be enjoyed by bicycle or on foot, in a unique and panoramic route along the Pordelio Canal.
The innovative cycle-pedestrian project was born in 2016, as part of ad hoc works for slow mobility. With the violent storm of 2017 and the fall of the pine trees in Via Fausta, the first funding arrived, thanks to the Special Law for Venice: 10 million euro for the protection of the historic centre and the lagoon.
At that time it was necessary to build a cycle path away from the roads, in order to guarantee more safety for citizens and tourists. The Pordelio Canal was the ideal place for the cycle path.
The route starts in the centre of Cavallino and continues towards Via Marinona, where the view on the lagoon valleys and Falconera Island takes your breath away. Cycling for about 2 km, you reach Ca’Ballarin, where the first part of the path ended in 2021. Since then, work has not stopped for a single day to complete the project: further 5 km to the bridge leading to Treporti and the village of Lio Piccolo, the paradise of Venice Lagoon.
An exceptional lagoon front redevelopment project, part of a more than 20 km overall route, from Cavallino to the Piave Vecchia Lighthouse at Punta Sabbioni.
More than a route for cycling lovers, the new cycle path is a jewel for the eyes and the spirit. Whether by day, during the golden hour, or at dusk, the show is guaranteed, thanks to the unique and suggestive views of Venice, Torcello and Burano, with the sea always in the background.
Suspended between the lagoon and the sky, the path represents a project of extreme value, which perfectly respects the needs of the territory, with the utmost respect for the environment. Here, nature is at home and beauty is only to be discovered, without haste, by crossing on foot or by bicycle the new 7 km long cycle-pedestrian path over the lagoon water, the longest in Europe.
