Walks and routes in Cavallino-Treporti: the hidden side between history and nature

Walking is perhaps the most authentic way to get to know a territory.

At a slow pace, in fact, with the ease of wandering between details and panoramas, every corner of Cavallino-Treporti shows itself in a new and surprising way. Between ancient military fortifications and wild dunes, fishing villages and old pine forests, this land bordering the sea and the lagoon houses treasures that only the most attentive traveller can grasp.

And if summer attracts thousands of visitors to our beaches, it is in the other seasons that the territory shows its most authentic face. During the rest of the year, when the mild temperatures of the Mediterranean climate invite you to long walks in nature, Cavallino-Treporti turns into a paradise for those who like to explore without haste.

So here are some paths to walk in every season, even when the colours become softer and the atmosphere more intimate.

The most beautiful itineraries

The territory of Cavallino-Treporti offers numerous routes, all easily accessible and well connected to each other. From coastal paths to the historic inland roads, each itinerary tells a different story, revealing the many facets of this land suspended between the sea and the lagoon.

From Punta Sabbioni to the Lighthouse

One of the most fascinating routes starts from the Dante Alighieri seafront in Punta Sabbioni.

From the seafront, turning onto Via Montello you reach the entrance to a large protected naturalistic area, characterised by a pine forest that gradually thins out opening onto a wide strip of natural dunes, an ideal habitat for different species of plants and animals. The path, traced through the dunes and its low vegetation, continues towards the sea and ends on the beach, a short distance from the lighthouse, a privileged panoramic point on the Venice lagoon and the Adriatic Sea.

For the guests of our campsite, there is an equally suggestive alternative: it is possible to reach the naturalistic area by walking directly from our beach towards Punta Sabbioni, following the shoreline in the direction of the lighthouse. Shortly before reaching it, a special signage indicates access to the naturalistic area also from the beach.

The ideal starting point for your trekking routes

The walk from Punta Sabbioni to the Lighthouse, flat and about 3 kilometres long, is accessible all year round and offers unforgettable views. In fact, we recommend bringing a camera with you: the sunset from this point gives scenery that deserve to be remembered.

But the naturalistic area of Punta Sabbioni is only one of the five protected areas present within the territory of Cavallino-Treporti; each of these areas offers a unique experience, allowing you to discover different aspects of the local ecosystem. And for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of these environments, in the summer months (usually July and August) the staff of the Tourist Environmental Centre (CAT) organises guided tours. Among these, the visit to the Ca’Savio pine forest deserves a special mention: located a few metres from the entrance of our campsite, this area is only accessible during these guided tours. Why not take advantage of it?

The path of the Forts

For those who are passionate about history, the „Via dei Forti” is an unmissable itinerary.

Starting from Camping Ca’Savio, the Batteria Pisani – today part of the widespread museum „Via dei Forti” – opens this route of about five kilometres, leading visitors through a succession of defensive works of the First World War.

In fact, continuing along via Pisani and crossing via Fausta in the direction of the lagoon, you reach the former Mandraccio barracks of Ca’Vio, a strategic place a few steps from the Pordelio canal, which tells stories of military life and strategy.

The loop of Treporti

The authentic heart of the territory is revealed in this four-kilometre circular route, which starts from the historic centre of Treporti (one of the oldest locations in Cavallino!), reachable by bike or bus from the campsite.

From the Piazza di Treporti, beyond the bridge and the road along the canal, you cross the Pra’ di Saccagnana, where time seems to have stopped. We continue towards the ancient Borgo delle Mesole, between vegetable gardens and crops that alternate with glimpses of the lagoon, while the islands of Burano and Torcello emerge in the background. During the journey, some refreshment points such as the Osteria al Pupi or the Locanda Zanella also allow you to taste traditional local dishes between the catch of the day and the products of the vegetable gardens.

The route is particularly pleasant especially during mid-seasons, when the temperature is ideal for walking. For birdwatchers, it is advisable to bring binoculars: the area is frequented by numerous species of waterfowl, especially in the early morning hours and at sunset.

The Doors of Cavallino

From Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta – reachable from the campsite by bus or by bicycle along the cycle track along Pordelio – there is a two-and-a-half-kilometre path that follows the winding Casson Canal until its meeting with the Sile river.

During the walk, views of places rich in biodiversity such as the Falconera Valley and Lio Maggiore open up.

The route, accessible in any season, offers a walk immersed in the tranquillity of nature. And on the clearest days, the gaze is lost to the majestic Venetian Dolomites, mountains that give unique spectacles such as their pink walls at sunset or the snowy peaks during the winter months.

The real face of Cavallino-Treporti

These routes are an excellent opportunity to discover the true face of Cavallino-Treporti, a territory rich in history and nature, a stone’s throw from Camping Ca’Savio.

Here, each season offers a different experience: in spring you can admire the flowering of the coastal vegetation, in summer enjoy the sunsets over the sea, in autumn walk through the warm colours of the pine forest and in winter appreciate the tranquility of the deserted beach.
